With winter nearly here, it’s important to switch your beauty routine to go along with it. The shift in the climate may cause dead skin cell buildup, which can then trap bacteria and oil beneath the surface, increasing breakouts. And if you’re spending more time indoors with the heat turned up, your skin will definitely need more hydration.
- Your skin may begin to look dull, get drier or more sensitive during winter (especially your eye and lip areas where the skin is delicate), but don’t stop exfoliating! You may think exfoliation worsens dryness, but it allows the skin to breath and actually lets moisture in afterwards when you use moisturizing elements, like lotion and oils. Most hydrating balms, masks and salves don’t need to be rinsed off, so you can let them sink in overnight for an added moisture boost.
- Skin can get a lot drier and flakier in the cooler months because going from cold outside to hot inside a lot will mess with the skin’s moisture balance. Bringing lotion and oils into your routine will not only immediately nourish skin, but will also help your skin to retain moisture over long periods. Look for multi-oil blends with natural ingredients.
- Keep your summer glow by taking vitamin C to help to tighten and brighten your skin – it stimulates collagen production so skin retains moisture better, and helps protect it from the elements. It also helps skin repair and reverse any possible long-term damage while maintaining an even skin tone and texture.
- If your skin is inclined to have redness, then it will likely flare up more in the cooler months – especially around the cheek and nose areas. Look for calming, anti-inflammatory ingredients like aloe, rose, chamomile, and lavender to help calm redness and soothe irritation.
That’s just 4 tips to get you started maintaining a radiant, moist skin this winter!
