Feet can get a little, well, pretty sad looking after a while, with rough callouses, uneven toenails and chipped paint. Isn’t it time for your toes to experience a little R&R and get their pretty back?
You CAN treat yourself to a salon-perfect pedicure at home – it’s super easy. Really!
Here are 9 steps to achieve a spa-like pedicure at home in no time...
- Remove the old nail polish
Take off the old nail polish using a cotton pad soaked in remover. Let the remover sit on your nails a few seconds to help break down the old polish before you begin to rub it off.
- Wash your feet well
Stuff gets on our feet and between our toes, and you want your feet clean before you give them a good soak, so give them a good scrubbing.
- Now soak those feet!
Now give your feet a relaxing soak to soften cuticles and tough skin. You can get a foot spa for this, or get a big bowl, or use your bathtub. Fill it with warm water and about half a cup of Epsom salt or other skin-soothing bath salts. Let your feet soak for about 20-30 minutes.
- Trim and file your toenails
Now that your skin is smooth and soft, get out your nail clippers to trim and cut your nails. No need for perfection—that comes later!
- Shape and buff the nails
Now it's time to smooth them out. Get your nail file to shape the corners and edges and file until all of your nails are even, and then give them a good buffing.
- Take care of your cuticles
Massage a few drops of cuticle oil into the skin around your nails for a few minutes. Use a cuticle pusher to gently push the cuticles back and to scrape away dry skin. Then pass the cuticle pusher under the nail, to eliminate any dead skin. (Save the trimming or cutting of your cuticles for the pros—you don’t want any damage done!)
- Exfoliate—scrub your toes, feet and heels
After patting your feet dry, get a pumice stone, a foot file or you can try Beauti Me’s Professional Electronic Callus Remover to get to work on calluses and dead skin until your feet are nice and smooth. This may take a while, but it’s worth it.
- Moisturize & massage your feet
Next is moisturizer. You can use a foot cream or body lotion. Beauti Me’s Therapeutic Body Lotion with tea tree and mint is a great choice for this, because not only does it soothe and moisturize your skin, it’s anti-bacterial and antifungal. This lotion massage will feel wonderful and will rehydrate your feet after that soak and scrub.
- Paint your toenails or go natural.
Ready for the final touch? You may want to just leave it at that and go natural or go for the nail polish. But before applying the polish, use a strengthening base coat. Then apply two coats of nail polish and add the finishing touch with a high-shine topcoat to protect the polish from chipping.
And you're done! Get out there feeling gorgeous and ready to take on the world.
